No Kill was born out of the heat of a Brooklyn Summer, the noisy neighbors behind a jangly garage pop sound. At the band’s core are the dueling vocals and guitars of Jamie Cogar and Andrew Trouwborst who have been in collaboration since the early 2000s. After the dust settled behind their short-lived metal band, Hypercub, Arkansas drummer Daniel Hickman joined the duo in 2011. The band shows off their pop-chops with catchy hooks that betray a mutual love of rock n’ roll of every vintage: from early American primitivism to the punk class of ’76; from heavy psych to the alternative underground of the eighties & nineties; from the jangle and twang of alt-country to the dark waves of shoegaze.
During the band’s first year they played shows across Brooklyn as a four-piece with bass before committing to the simplicity of a twin-guitar-plus-drums configuration. No Kill set their sights on creating a new vision of pop music, writing bittersweet songs about hazy holidays, lovesick debauchery and partying through end of the world. After a brief respite from live performances to reformulate their sound and to hit the recording studio, the band returned to the stages of NYC in 2012. They quickly garnered praise for the raucous energy of their live shows. Onstage, No Kill cranks up the volume and bends their three-minute pop songs to the breaking point.
No Kill’s first release is the five-song E.P. Loose Teeth, recorded to ½” tape by Andy Plovnick in his Brooklyn studio, The Electric Gypsy Service. The band sought to capture a raw, lo-fi, live sound that looks back to the days when acts made studio recordings to capture singular, sonic moment. No Kill has already made Loose Teeth available via digital download, and is planning to self-release a hand-printed physical edition in September 2012. This September, Loose Teeth’s opening track "Sledding" will be included as a guest track on Custom Made Music's Fall sampler.
